Two Sites, One Mission
If you have spent time on both Herping.com and Herping.org, you may have noticed they serve different purposes. That is by design. Together, they form two halves of a single mission: to build a community that celebrates reptiles and amphibians and permanently protects the wild places they call home.
Herping.com — The Community Hub
Herping.com is where the community lives. It is your home base for field herping guides, species profiles, care information, conservation news, and everything else that connects people who love reptiles and amphibians. Whether you are a first-time herper learning the basics or a seasoned field naturalist planning your next tropical expedition, Herping.com is built for you.
Our content is free and always will be. We believe that education and community are the foundation of effective conservation. The more people understand and appreciate these animals, the more people will fight to protect them.
Our online shop offers gear, apparel, and accessories for the herping community. Every purchase directly supports our conservation work.
Herping.org — The 501(c)(3) Nonprofit
Herping.org is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a single, focused mission: purchasing and permanently protecting rainforest land.
Habitat loss is the single greatest threat facing reptiles and amphibians worldwide. Deforestation, agricultural expansion, and urban development are destroying the ecosystems these animals depend on at an alarming rate. Herping.org exists to fight back by doing the most direct thing possible: buying the land and protecting it forever.
How Your Donation Works
$275 protects one acre of rainforest. That is not a metaphor or an estimate. It is the actual cost of purchasing and legally protecting one acre of threatened tropical forest through our land trust partnerships.
100 percent of conservation funds go directly to land protection. No overhead skimming, no administrative bloat. When you donate to Herping.org, your money buys land. Period.
How the Two Sites Connect
All proceeds from the Herping.com shop and all donations made through Herping.org go to the same place: permanent land protection for reptile and amphibian habitat.
When you buy a shirt from our shop, you are protecting habitat. When you donate directly through Herping.org, you are protecting habitat. When you share our content and grow the community, you are helping more people discover why these animals matter and why their homes are worth saving.
Why This Matters
Approximately 41 percent of all amphibian species and 21 percent of all reptile species are currently threatened with extinction according to the IUCN. The primary driver is habitat loss. Every acre of protected forest is a lifeline for the snakes, frogs, lizards, and salamanders that live there.
We cannot protect what we do not value, and we cannot value what we do not understand. That is why Herping.com and Herping.org exist side by side: one to build understanding, the other to turn that understanding into action.
Get Involved
There are several ways to support the mission:
Donate directly at Herping.org. Every dollar goes to land protection.
Shop at shop.herping.com. All proceeds fund conservation.
Share our content. Growing the community means growing the movement.
Herp responsibly. Practice ethical field herping, respect wildlife, and leave every habitat better than you found it.
Together, we are building something that lasts — for the animals, for the land, and for every future herper who deserves the thrill of finding a wild snake, frog, or lizard in an intact, thriving ecosystem.
